Firstly the guy who was shooting at the police was armed with a semi auto .22 cal pistol, hardly a tank buster. Wouldn't like to be shot with one but it's not really a big deal. The officer had already reloaded when he was shot in the leg with the 22. So I can assume that the officer had possibly already fired 6 rounds of 38spl at the crim and missed. Don't know if the officer's partner was also shooting his 38. One of the reasons the police still use revlovers is that they can more easily keep track of the number of shots fired and are trained to reload (speed loaders) as soon as they have fired 3~4 shots and have a spare or two to do so. Having 18 shot semi auto and filling the sky with lead with the hope of hitting something is not a good idea. I have some knowledge of Victorian police marksmanship and the community would be much better served if the $10 million were spent on firearms training and marksmanship not pistols with never ending mags.
As a final point, Snr Sgt Mullet is in bit of a bind (union matters) and does not enjoy the full support of the rank and file police officers and this is his way of stiring up a non issue to try to bolster is position as union head honcho.
Respectfully, I am a citizen who is grateful that this crim is dead.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
