Jurors acquit NY man in gun death: "An Orange County Court jury has cleared Charles Melvin in the shooting death of Delvin Pemberton on Nov. 3. After 21/2 days of deliberating, the jury found Melvin not guilty of murder, manslaughter and weapon possession in the fatal shooting of Pemberton who was parked in a minivan on Liberty Street in the City of Newburgh at the time. His lawyer, Alan Joseph, called the jurors' decision "just and appropriate" based on the evidence presented to them. "Mr. Melvin denied guilt the entire time, and I think the physical evidence backed it up," Joseph said." [Background here]


FL: Woman shoots at black invader with a .45: "An intruder pummeled a 33-year-old Jacksonville man with a gun Thursday afternoon and shot his naked 31-year-old girlfriend, but was fired on himself as he fled their home in the 7000 block of Paul Jones Drive.... Bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to a hand, she was seen running to a store in the 800 block of Edgewood Avenue West, where police and paramedics found her. Police found a large puddle of blood and three .45-caliber shell casings in the bedroom, while another gun with a spent round stuck in it was found near the store. Police said the gun belonged to the shooting victim, who apparently shot at the gunman before or after he shot at her."
