MI: Defendant in road rage trial claims shooting was self-defense: "Mintz told jurors one of the men began banging on his car, and that as Said turned away, he appeared to be reaching into his pocket. Mintz, who has a license to carry the gun, said he thought Said was retrieving a weapon so he shot him in the elbow.”
NY: Lesbian attacks lover, gets shot: "A city cop -- and niece of former Met Shawon Dunston -- was released on $1,000 bail this morning after being charged with shooting her lesbian lover in a vicious quarrel. Ekeythia Dunston, 32, claimed she shot her long-time gal pal Erica Legall, 42, early Monday morning in self-defense because she was being attacked herself with a clothing iron. "Obviously there are extenuating circumstances here," said defense attorney Edgar De Leon in Manhattan criminal court. "The complainant hit the defendant with a handheld laundry iron about the head several times," said Assistant District Attorney David Smith. "The defendant pulled out her service revolver, which was loaded, and she shot twice." Legall was struck in the thigh and shoulder and taken to Harlem Hospital where she was in stable condition."
MI: Gun rights activists square off with Royal Oak over anti-gun rule: "Gun rights activists filled the Royal Oak city council chambers last night in the latest protest against the ban on firearms at the upcoming Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival. … Local gun rights activists have attended the last three Royal Oak city meetings to bring attention to what they believe is unlawful firearms ban. The controversy is over a ‘no-firearms allowed’ clause in the contract between The City of Royal Oak, the site of the festival, and the private Arts, Beats, and Eats, Inc. (ABE) company contracted to run the festival. The Michigan Firearms Preemption Act 319 of 1990 act bars cities or other local units of government from enacting or enforcing any firearms laws stricter than state law.”
