MI:Police: security tape backs coach's version in shooting of teens

The DPD told Fox-2 Monday that a surveillance tape from Martin Luther King Jr High School corroborates his version of his shooting of two teens Friday night following a basketball game. Yet spokeswoman Sgt Eren Stephens said the case is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, shooter Ernest Robinson has been released from custody.

Robinson said he was walking two female players to their cars when two teens tried to grab his necklace. At least one of the teens was armed, he claimed.

Robinson, 70, a girl’s basketball coach, had a CCW and was also carrying. He drew his gun and shot both young men.

Michael Scott, 16, died at the scene. The other teen, whom police have not identified, was on a respirator and in critical condition as of last night.

Police say the video is very clear. They told reporters that the shooting was a “clear case of self defense.” They said the teens were lurking in a corridor and then started beating the coach in an apparent robbery attempt.

Only then did the coach fire.
