CT:Police Seize Retired Chemist, Model Rocket Hobbiest, and Trapshooter's Guns...Because They Can

He must be an "enemy of the state".  After all, he is old, retired, an expert in explosive, in the trapshooting hall of fame, and white.   For those who have trouble with their satire detector, that is satire.   I hope he wins a big settlement from the police department for false arrest and defamation of character.

Still, if I were him, I would be worried that the police could find something, in the vast maze of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, to charge him with.  Much is at stake, after all, perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars of potential forfeiture money might be gained by the police department.

Joseph Callahan, 69, was charged Monday with several felonies, including 11 counts of illegal possession of explosives and six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

But attorney Richard Meehan said Callahan is a retired chemist and collector who had no “nefarious intent” when items were discovered at his upscale Fairfield home.

“He’s a gun collector, and they’re all registered. They’re all legal,” Meehan told the Daily News on Tuesday. “In addition, he’s an amateur rocketeer. He shoots off his own small rockets, and a lot of what he had was related to the rocketry.”

  1. Were they estes rocket engines?
I used to play with those as a kid, used them for a jet car in 7 or 8th grade way back in the 60s.

They sold them at the hobby shop right behind the old police station.
