PG&E to install additional security following gun attack in San Jose

What you are not being told is that this attack came very close to putting Southern California out of power for a month.   If the attack had occurred at one or two other major substations at the same time, it would have.  We got very very, lucky.  These transformers are the most critical and vulnerable part of our whole power grid.   A coordinated attack on them is like a low tech EMP attack.

Here is a very limited article about it.

PG&E will build fences around critical power substations after its Metcalf power substation located in South San Jose was hit with numerous gun shots. During the nighttime attack last April, there was 19 minutes of shooting with more than 100 rounds fired, hitting 17 transformers which took more than a month to properly repair. Prior to the shooting, those responsible also cut through AT&T fiber-optic cables, with phone service temporarily disrupted.

  1. We have fences around ours here in Ohio, but the fences won't stop bullets!
