Advances in firearms civil liberties could be made with proposals in Legislature, Congress

Imagine what it would be like to live in a state where people didn’t need a government-issued permit to carry a firearm.

Would there be shootouts on the street? Gun crime rates soaring? Danger lurking around every corner?

Or would it be like every other day here in Maine — where no permit is required to carry a firearm that is openly displayed, and gun crime rates are far below the national average.

  1. Imagine what it would be like if the federal congress forced all of the state to recognize the second amendment as it is written and is backed up by the tenth amendment? The fact is NO state has the authority to rewrite the second amendment. Open or concealed does not exist in the second amendment wording. If I chose to keep my fire arms covered to keep them rain and snow free then they are concealed and violate the law. Most guns rust. The 26 words of the second amendment allow me to keep and bare arms, it makes no differentiation as to how to keep and bare. Some people are unnecessarily afraid of open holstered weapons. If you are responsible enough to carry a weapon it should not matter how you carry it. You can not limit, tax or regulate a right or it becomes a privilege and the second amendment is a guaranteed right.
