Suriname: Robber Shot

PARAMARIBO — A man with gunshot wounds who died in the hospital Friday, was shot by people whose house he was robbing earlier in the day. Police say they are now looking for his two fellow robbers; the homeowner who fired the fatal shots has meanwhile been interrogated and then sent home.

Police learned on Saturday though that Galimo and two other men had been caught red handed committing a robbery in Northern Paramaribo. The men hightailed it when they were caught, but their victims set chase; one of the angered residents of the house fired shots at the thieves. Galimo was struck by two bullets.

Police said the man who fired the shots was allowed to leave after he gave a statement. It is not clear whether he will face further legal consequences for the shooting.
