Followup NC: Tina Bayne Domestic Shooting may have been Self Defense

A Lake Toxaway woman who shot and killed her husband may have done so in self-defense.

District Attorney Greg Newman, chief prosecutor for Transylvania County, said Tina Bayne may have been in an abusive relationship and the incident on Sept. 25 that left her husband and former Brevard Police officer Thomas Bayne dead may have been a result of self-defense.

“What we are being told... over the last two years the relationship had been volatile,” said Newman on Thursday afternoon.

Newman said his office was still looking at the case, along with Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the State Bureau of Investigation. He said charges have not been filed against Bayne, but he did not rule them out. Investigators said Thomas C. Bayne, 45, was dead when they arrived at his home on Chapman Ridge at about 3 a.m.
