Anytime we see a newspaper, or TV or radio station, report an incident such as this one as a "botched robbery," we should flood them with demands for a correction:
"How about you and the rest of the news media begin reporting stories like these as thwarted, rather than 'botched, robberies?
"The word 'botched' implies that something went wrong that normal, decent people should hope didn't -- like a cancer surgery, a police raid on a child prostitution ring, or a double-play by the home team.
"In cases of successful self-defense by intended victims, the good guys won. So how about you start reporting it that way?"
