Six people, including children, were inside the
home 2 miles outside of Rolla when they heard someone trying break in.
The intruder was then shot and killed.
Authorities say the intruder had a weapon, but it's unknown who fired the deadly shot.

That is ridiculous or extremely poor investigative tactics. Powder residue skin test would tell them who fired the shot. It would make no difference if the shot was legally fired in self defense or the protection of property. depending on proximity to the shot they might all be positive but the highest concentration would be the shooter. and no I am not a CSI but I have studied gunshots. the university in Tucson has an extensive video library. It helped with my ER work.
