It would be worth knowing how many of the seized guns were made at home or in small shops.
Roughly 1,500 guns originated in the United States out of a study of more than 10,000 arms seized by police since 2014, mostly in Rio de Janeiro, the December 2017 report said, although the guns often travelled through a third country before arriving in Brazil.
Guns from the United States tended to be assault rifles and higher caliber handguns, while guns already circulating in Brazil or arriving from other countries skewed toward smaller handguns.
"The US continues to be the largest indirect source of illegal handguns and assault rifles as a result of unrestricted sales in stores and fairs in American cities," the report said.

It's not the guns, it's the people. If bad people couldn't get a gun, they'd get another weapon.

ReplyDeleteWhat would REALLY be worth knowing is how many seized guns had been ...
- stolen from the homes of private owners in the USA;
- stolen from gun-store break-ins in the USA;
- imported/smuggled-in by USA government itself ("Operation Gun-Runner");
- imported/smuggled-in or diverted there by other governments;
- imported/smuggled-in by arms merchants/sellers/brokers ("Lord of War", movie 2005, starring Nicolas Cage, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_War).
For centuries before guns were invented they had continual wars and millions died. Guns save time so more wars can be fought and ended faster. No civilization has ever been war free. Peace is great as long as it lasts. the problem is you always have to be ready when the peace comes to an end. I am very easy going, if someone wants what I have if I don't need it for my self I will give it to them or sell it to them for the asking. if they steal it that creates a problem. I have never had to plan a funeral.
ReplyDeleteAny one can make a bow and arrow set up or a spear. If someone wants to kill you they will find a way. every car comes with a tire iron. a piece of piano wire makes a very deadly weapon and who can not pick up a rock? weapons laws are exceptionally stupid. Has a piece of paper/ license sever stopped a crime? Criminals never get a license so why do law abiding citizens need a license to protect themselves?
