  1. They were abusive to each other for many years. The end result was born out of abuse by both to the other. Very sad. It was brewing for years.

  2. So its been 3 1//2 months and they have not pressed charges against Teri Bassett for killing her husband. WTH? She is an alcoholic according to her step son but I know for a fact that Teri is not a nice person. But I guess no-one is being held accountable for this murder. Mesa PD is pretty crappy police force.

    1. This couldn’t be more accurate. Teri was/is an alcoholic. Regardless of the alleged history of domestic disputes, this retired officer was shot THROUGH A CLOSED DOOR and was unarmed at the time. Teri was so drunk that she couldn’t stand by herself when officers arrived on scene. Unarmed and through a closed/locked door... let that sink in.

  3. So I was the victims first wife.... I left him after 5 years of marriage because of Domestic Violence. Broken ribs, bruises, broken possessions, threats of bodily harm, etc from him to me. Both Teri and Stephen were out of control with drinking and lack of ability to handle things in a peaceful manner. I cannot imagine 40 years in that marriage. I am so glad I left and saved my children the violence. Teri has to now live with what she did and well, Stephen is no longer with us. What a horrible waste of two lives. They should have gotten divorced gotten away from each other years ago. So very very sad. Total waste.

  4. I lived a block away from Steve and Teri in the 90’s. Our sons were the same age and in the same class, so they played together. I went over to their house one day to pick up my son, and found them drunk. He was still a Mesa Police Officer at the time. They kept me in their house, and wouldn’t let me leave, rambling a bunch of angry and abusive nonsense at me and each other. It was particularly scary because he was a cop. I’d known them for a few years. I finally got out of there and my son and I never went back1

  5. I am just curious as to why Teri has not been prosecuted?

  8. So he must have threatened to kill her and she recorded it. There is no other way she would walk free on this deal. Very strange indeed.
