On
Wednesday evening (June 1), around 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to the
22000 block of NW 14th Terrace in Brooker for an attempted robbery. The
caller reported that she was outside watering her garden when a white
male approached her and demanded her car. The suspect was described as
an older white male, wearing green hat, white shirt and tan pants. He
also indicated he had a gun. The suspect and victim struggled over the
car keys at which time the victim was able to retrieve her firearm and
fire at the suspect. The suspect immediately dropped the keys and fled
the area.
An extensive search of the area was conducted but the
suspect was not located. Deputies also notified Bradford County of the
incident and suspect description.
Thursday (June 2), detectives
were contacted by Bradford County Sheriff’s deputies regarding a robbery
and carjacking in Brooker. Alachua County detectives were able to
identify the Bradford County suspect, Larry S. Dupree (1/16/66), of Glen
St. Mary, Florida, as the suspect in the Alachua County incident.
Dupree has been charged with Robbery and Grand Theft in Bradford County.
After the Robbery, Dupree fled to Wakulla County and was arrested by
the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.
Dupree is currently being
held in the Wakulla County for warrants from Alachua County and Bradford
County. He has been charged in Alachua County with Attempted Grand
Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Robbery by Sudden Snatching with a Firearm or
Deadly Weapon, False Imprisonment and Burglary with Assault or Battery.
Bond on the Alachua County Charges has been set at $200,000.
