WA: Tacoma Homeowner Shoots Armed Home Invader

Update, 4:50 p.m.: Police said the man suspected of trying to break into a Northeast Tacoma home was armed with a firearm and pointed it toward the home’s occupants before he was shot by the homeowner.

The 52-year-old man is suspected of attempted burglary, Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Det. William Muse said in an email to The News Tribune. Muse said the man broke one of the home’s windows and tried to manipulate a door to get inside.

Muse said the homeowner shot the man in defense of himself and others in the home. No one inside was injured. The police spokesperson said the shooter was cooperative and was not arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
