MN:Ford Dealer: Shotguns with Pickup Purchase

A Ford dealer, Muscatell Burns Ford, in Hawley, Minnesota, is offering a free shotgun with each new pickup truck it sells.    A shotgun costs a few hundred dollars and a pickup truck tens of thousands, so while a nice addition, it is not a big deal.

It tells the customers that the dealership supports a constitutional republic, in a way that is willing to make national news and take a little heat from the "progressive" media.  This is a proven promotional idea that savvy dealerships have used a number of times to gain free publicity.

This promotion is scheduled to last for two weeks, and is noteworthy in that the truck dealership is in one state and the location to pick up the shotgun in another.

Hawley, Minnesota is a small town about 28 miles to the east of Fargo, North Dakota.   Fargo is by far the the largest population center nearby, with about 100 times the population of Hawley.  There has to be a reason for customers to go as far as Hawley to buy a truck.

I talked to Jason Jalbert at the Dealership.  He said that this is the first gun promotion that they have done.  It starts tomorrow, and there appears to be a lot of interest in it.

The customer, if they make the shotgun deal, will be given a voucher that can be redeemed at a Fargo sporting goods shop.   The voucher is worth $350, the cost of a Remington 870 Express shotgun.   The sporting goods shop made a good deal on a mass purchase of Remingtons, so the Ford dealership, the sporting goods store, and the customers can all come out winners.   If the customer does not want a shotgun, the $350 can be applied to anything else in the store.

I will be calling up Jason in a couple of weeks to see how this promotion turned out.  In my experience, this will be a win for everyone except those who want to demonize the ownership of firearms in the United States.  Jason says that if the promotion is successful, more will be planned for the future.

  1. Trouble is, it just too cold and snowed in to even try to get up there.

They showed the new F-150 on TV news about the car show in Cleveland and it was the aluminum bodied one in all black with god awful yellow rings around the headlight lens.

Don't know what was up with that?

Any, with an aluminum body, it won't belong till the scrappers start cutting the fenders off!
