Libertarian VP Candidate Video; Gun Ban for Terror Watch List, Rifles are "Weapons of Mass Destruction"

On August 3rd, 2016, the Libertarian candidate for vice president, William Weld, was interviewed on REVOLT TV

REVOLT TV Chief Political Correspondent Amrit Singh asked candidate Weld about legislation and his views on guns.  A short video clip of the relevant section has been posted on Youtube by occupy the media.  The gun segment starts right away in the clip.
William Weld:
"The five shot rifle, that is a standard military rifle, the problem is if you attach a clip to it that holds more shells and if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon, and those are independent criminal offences.  That is when they  become, essentially, a weapon of mass destruction.  The problem with handguns probably is even worse than the problem of the AR15."
 Amrit Singh:
"What can you do to help control this flow of guns, if anything?"

William Weld:
"You shouldn't have anybody who is on the terrorist watch list buy any gun at all."

William Weld was United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts from 1981 to 1986. He was governor of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1997. He should know that the ban on "high capacity magazines" is independent of them being inserted into a rifle; it only applies to magazines made after 1994, and applies to magazines with a capacity of over 10 rounds, not 5.  There is a five round limit for shotguns.  He was governor when these limitations were put in place.

Weld also opined extensively on the recent police shooting of Philando Castile in Minnesota.  He was certain that the police officer had committed a criminal offense and that the officer would be going to jail.  He misquotes what Philando Castile's girlfriend said on video; then he claims that it was Philando Castile who said it.
Weld: Having said "I have a license to carry, you do not mind if I reach for it, do you?"
As an attorney, he seems to have little care for the rule of law, due process, and the idea of "innocent until proven guilty".

The officers involved are under investigation, and are unable to give their side of the story yet.  At the minimum, it would be prudent to say that we should wait until the investigation is concluded before making innocent or guilty judgements.

Libertarians have traditionally been the party with the strongest support for Second Amendment rights, and upholding the rule of law as defined by the Constitution.

These statements seem unlikely to resonate with the Libertarian base.

  1. The Liberals have long attempted to destroy the libertarian name by populating yet another Faction with LiberALtarians posing as libertarians. From environmentalism to guns, the political left destroys people's faith in what Could and Should be the most massive political party in this country.

I submit to you that most people really are libertarian in their politics. Defined thusly; you do your thing but do not hurt me or others, while I do my thing but I do not hurt you or others. I might not like what you do, you may not like what I do, and both of us OK with that - because we both understand that our own business is our own business, not each others' business.

This is the very core idea that the founders were fighting for and won - Independence, Liberty and Justice for all.

The two "main" parties, those factions, have great fear that unless they corrupt the libertarian idea, the people might just flock together, leaving the two main parties to their own pathetic, weak and unjust antics absent the ability to impose it all on the rest of us.

  2. Rifles are not weapons of mass destruction. I volunteer to let him stand in front of my 30-30 or receive six rounds from my .357 and with his last breath he can tell me is he has changed his mind. I do not know if it is still there but there used to be an indoor range in Las Vegas where you could fire almost any gun ever made, even a .50 cal. machine gun. they had to take out the 22 cal. machine gun because it was destroying the range. the whole idea of firing a gun is to destroy the target. it is not a weapon of mass destruction unless you are destroying a mass of targets. When you want protection you may need more than one round. Not many people are given the opportunity to choose the number of their attackers. If one person is high on drugs you may run out of ammo trying to stop them. more than likely the only thing this guy has been god at is throwing dog turds at veterans. the morons that have never had a self defense issue should have nothing to say.

  3. The terrorist watch list is impossible to get off of and to easy to get on. remember conservatives, constitutionalists, Christians, tea partiers and Veterans are on the list. Our elite government trash believes anyone that is not in lock step with the new world order is dangerous. anyone that thinks they have a right to own a gun is on the list.

  4. This guy looks like he barely made it through the 60s. and appears to be absolute proof that pot damages your brain.

  5. The Confederate Battle Flag was turned into an intolerable symbol of racism before our eyes without a fight. The Gadsden Flag, "Don't tread on Me" is in that process now. If we have no symbols and cannot speak of our support of colorblind constitutionalism without it being labeled hate speech, we are reduced to "Double-plus ungood!" while our leaders -- excuse me, rulers resort to duckspeech.

  6. I see Weld is drunk again. He can't even pretend to be a good Libertarian. He's still a leftist, gun-grabbing RINO through and through. What a joke on those who feel that the Libertarian party is some sort of realistic alternative to Trump.

  7. Weapons of Mass Destruction by definition alone does not include handguns and rifles. Now when you talk about Nukes, Bombs and chemical agents then you're talking WMD's.

If you consider handguns and rifles as WMD then you have to add knifes, scissors, slingshots, BB guns, etc. As you can kill people with those also.

  8. I'd love to watch Gov. Weld, or anyone else, get on YouTube and show us how to "remove a pin" from an AR-15, then fire it on full-auto.

  9. You're certainly right about one thing, he does not speak for ANY true libertarian on gun rights. A TRUE libertarian would support the right of any free, peaceable and adult citizen. To be able to go to the local gun shop and purchase a suppressed fully automatic rifle without a background check. If you call yourself a libertarian and you wouldn't support this, don't call yourself a libertarian.

  10. " ...if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon..."hmmmmmm, I had no idea,.... and neither does He. What an idiot.

  11. I put my three flags up in my yard from time to time. Old glory, Gadsden and my solid red battle flag.

As far as that moron stating the removal of a pin makes it fully automatic did any one ask him which pin? ask him to show how that was accomplished? Maybe some one should show him how to remove two pins and beat the hell out of him with the upper.
