In this YouTube video, Sheriff Grady Judd gives a detailed explanation of what happened in a recent self defense shooting in Polk County, Florida.
"This is justifiable homicide all day long," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "You have the right to protect yourself. This is a textbook stand your ground case. This is a classic. This was the intent of the law."
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of 28 August, 2018. The Uber driver, Robert Westlake, had picked up his fare at a bar. A young woman, Jessica, had helped the inebriated woman get into the Uber, instead of driving.

Somehow, Jessica's estranged boyfriend thought the Uber passenger was his ex girfriend. He texted messages, saying he was going to beat up the Uber driver. The ex boyfriend, Jason Boek, had borrowed an F250 truck. He used it to force the Uber driver off the road. He then approached the Uber, threatening to shoot him, while pulling his cell phone from his pocket. It was 2:30 a.m.
The Uber driver had just finished the police acadamy, but was not a sworn police officer yet. He has a Florida concealed carry permit.
He shot Boek once in the chest. Boek died on the scene as Westlake, the Uber driver, tried to stop the bleeding. Westlake had an dashcam tha recorded the event.
