The shooting happened around 12:43 am Monday at West Oakland's City Towers housing complex, on the 1000 block of Eighth Street, when as many as four vehicles carrying multiple people were traveling eastbound. As Bay Area News Group reports, occupants of at least two of the vehicles began shooting at three security guards, who returned fire, according to initial police reports.
The gunfire triggered a gunshot detection system alert, and the security guards also called police, but the vehicles had left by the time officers arrived.
According to the News Group, the 15-year-old showed up at a hospital a short time later with a gunshot wound to his foot. Police confirmed he had been involved in the shooting by connecting him to a Hyundai parked near the hospital with at least one bullet hole that had been reported stolen earlier in Oakland. Police reportedly found blood on the driver’s seat as well as a pistol.
