Fast & Furious: Univision investigative report coming out

(FL)One intruder dead, another wounded in Lake City

One intruder was shot dead and another wounded in Columbia County on Thursday night by a man who was armed and ready when the two men broke into his home, according to Columbia County sheriff's officials.

Travis Brown, 26, and Johnnie Collins, 22, entered an unidentified victim's home in the 1300 block of Northeast Washington Street in Lake City at around 10:30 p.m., according to sheriff's officials. The victim told detectives that at least one of the intruders was armed with a handgun.

MURFREESBORO — It was a scary night for a college student who was being robbed at gunpoint, until his quick-thinking roommate helped turn the tables. While the pair waited for police to arrive, they held a suspect down with guns and a samurai sword, according to police.

German Jewish leader deters racist attack with gun

BERLIN (Reuters) - A leading member of Germany's Jewish community had to point to a gun he was carrying to ward off a young man shouting anti-Semetic abuse, the latest in a string of racist incidents in Berlin that has shocked Jews and city authorities.

(MI)Baseball Bat Wielding Robbers Fended Off by Homeowner

ALBION TOWNSHIP, Mich — An Eastern Calhoun County couple is recovering after a violent home invasion early Thursday morning.

Police say two men armed with baseball bats attacked Dave and Kathy Powers at their home on J Drive South in Albion Township.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department the homeowners fought back leading to a police investigation that spans several Michigan counties.

Police were first called around 9:30 Thursday morning to a report of a home invasion and a shooting.

HOUSTON - A former Houston firefighter pulled a gun on two robbery suspects, killing one of them, investigators said.

Houston police said the homeowner pulled into his driveway on Glenhurst Drive near Southbank in southeast Houston about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Two armed men walked up to him and demanded cash, officials said.

(TN)Victim Uses Samurai Sword To Stop Armed Robber

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - You know the saying: Don't bring a knife to a gunfight? Try telling that to three students who pulled a Samurai sword on a gun-packing robber.

"He chose the wrong guy to mug. I always said I'm not going to give money to someone who mugs me, and I'm living proof. I'm here and he's in jail," said Tyler Michaels, a teenage college student.

The person in jail is armed robbery suspect Deadrick Gaines.

Michaels said Gaines pulled a gun on him in a parking lot and then demanded they go get money from inside his apartment. Once inside, Michaels said he fought back -- successfully wrestling the gun from Gaines, but ending up with two black eyes.

"He put a beating on me. I was just after that gun. I took that beating to get that gun," said Michaels.

He then called his roommates for help and Andrew Perez rushed in and grabbed a decorative samurai sword off the wall and held it to Gaines chest until Murfreesboro police arrived.

(KY)Homeowner pulls gun after home invasion

The Adair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a possible armed robbery at a country store and a home invasion by two masked males.

Adair County 911 dispatch received a call Monday at 5:08 a.m. that someone had forcibly entered a residence on Rose Lane by breaking the door frame.

Sheriff deputy B.J. Bray responded to the scene where the homeowner reported that the two males entered his residence and he confronted them with a firearm before they fled on foot.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven convenience store owner fought back against a man trying to rob him and won Tuesday night.

The owner fired off two shots in his store which was enough to scare him off. It was the third time he's faced a gun in an attempted robbery.

I recently had the pleasure of touring the Utah facility where Silencerco and SWR sound suppressors for firearms are manufactured. I toured my first arms plant in the late 1960s and many since, and I’ve never seen a manufacturing facility cleaner or more modern than this one. Their approach to their product is just as clean and modern.
They want to make silencers more readily available to law-abiding citizens. I for one have no problem with that at all.
Before Silencerco absorbed SWR, those companies joined two other firms to create the American Silencer Association. Most of the general public, and even many shooters, are unaware that these devices are legal to own in most states, though it involves going through some legal hoops, and a $200 government fee.
ASA maintains a full-time lobbyist to work in several directions. At the state level, to make it legal for law abiding citizens to have silencers in the jurisdictions where it isn’t now. And, to make it legal to hunt with them, which is not the case in many states. At the national level, the association wants you able to buy one without having to pay $200 to the Federal government for approval, and hopefully streamline the whole process.
Suppressors can be life-savers in emergency shootings inside buildings. Police officers and citizens fending off home intruders are at risk for some hearing loss when they fire powerful weapons in close quarters with their ears unprotected. During the fight, loud gunfire can keep you from hearing something that might make the difference between life and death. Hunters firing high powered rifles without ear protection often notice their ears ringing for some time thereafter, a sign of hearing damage. Cleaning out pastures full of prairie dogs ruining good land, or herds of feral hogs doing the same, means lots of gunfire and multiplies that potential for hearing damage. Ear protection can help, but most types get in the way of hearing where the animal is, and all are uncomfortable for all-day wear in the field. Suppressors solve that problem nicely. I’m told ASA’s efforts have resulted in Texas and Arizona approving silencers for hunters.

In other nations – even anti-gun England – the use of silencers for casual hunting, pest eradication, and recreational shooting in the countryside is encouraged. It is considered the gentlemanly thing to do there, so neighbors are not disturbed.

The 1934 NFA requiring a $200 tax and jumping through numerous regulatory hoops in order to possess a gun muffler has been one of the worst public health disasters created by the federal government. Millions have suffered hearing loss as a result.
This issue is finally coming to a head. There is no logic or reason that gun mufflers should not be available in the local hardware store for $75, as they are in Finland.
The Supreme court in Finland ruled that it was a constitutional right to be able to construct, sell, or trade silencers.
You know we have a real problem when most European nations have less restrictive gun laws in this area than the United States.

(SC)Sheriff: Cherokee Co. Homicide Most Likely Self Defense

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. --

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler ruled the death a homicide, but the Sheriff's Office hasn't filed any charges yet. Sheriff Steve Mueller told 7 On Your Side it appears the homeowner was defending himself when he hit a driver multiple times with a cement block.

“Did Mr. Hughes do too much? I don't think so,” said Sheriff Mueller. “I think he done what any reasonable home owner would have done."

Sheriff Mueller says volunteer firemen Josh McAbee was killed at a Glen Hughes’ home on Corinth Road, Saturday morning.

Mueller tells us, McAbee was driving erratically. Somehow his truck ran off the road and hit a trailer in Hughes' yard. Hearing the commotion, Hughes came outside with a gun and fired off warning shots. The sheriff says that's when the two started fighting, and Hughes picked up a cinder block and hit McAbee in the head, killing him.

(SD)Homeowner Kills Intruder During Home Invasion

RAPID CITY, SD -

A North Rapid City neighborhood is in shock after an early morning shooting. Police say it happened during a home invasion where the home owner shot and killed the intruder shortly before 5 a.m.

When police arrived they found at 21-year old Dallas Two Bulls' body. He was shot three times by a homeowner acting in self defense.

WHITE PLAINS — It’s bad enough when armed gunmen rob your store, but when owner Teresa Smith saw a loved one being threatened, the situation reached another level.

“I shot as much as that gun would let me shoot,” Smith said of the .38-caliber revolver she wielded Sunday night when two robbers entered the Cupboard No. 2 in White Plains and one held a handgun on her husband Barry.

Armed criminals in gun shops are exceedingly rare. Notice that AP refers to the assailant as a "customer" rather than an assailant, aggressor, bushwacker, or assaulter.

Detroit - Two would-be carjackers fled when they realized the elderly woman they were trying to rob had packed a pistol to go to church and the grocery store, according to a Detroit Police bulletin.

(WI)Woman says shooting at home intruder saved her life Police: Woman confronted in home early Saturday

BLOOMING GROVE, Wis. -

Police said that a woman fired a handgun at a masked home intruder Saturday morning.

Now that victim -- who, despite talking to WISC-TV, is not identifying herself -- says she wants everyone to be prepared for similar unexpected situations.

"It's nothing that I ever thought I'd ever go through," the victim said. "I got the gun in case something were to happen, but I never ever thought in a million years I'd actually have to use it."

ATLANTA - A homeowner opens fire on a pair of armed robbers at his southwest Atlanta home early Sunday morning.

He tells FOX 5 News that the gunmen surprised him when he arrived home. He says he feared he would not survive a violent confrontation with armed gunmen. The shootout left his porch splattered with blood.

(UT)Gunman dies from gunshot wounds

KAYSVILLE — A suspected gunman has died from gunshot wounds after a shooting that left another man in critical condition.

Just before 2:30 p.m. Friday, a gunman at Francis Peak Apartments, located at 600 West Mutton Hollow Road in Kaysville, shot 51-year-old maintenance manager Steve Bailey multiple times, "emptying the clip" and critically wounding him.

Witnesses report that Bailey witnessed a domestic dispute between a man and woman in a common area of the apartment complex and tried to intervene when the man shot Bailey at close range.

Police report that an armed witness shot at the gunman, but it is unknown at this time if those gunshots were those that caused the suspect's death.
