residence on 19th Avenue caught 22-year-old James L. Travis, Jr. inside
the homeowner's vehicle at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the Travis
was dressed in black and wearing a black stocking cap.

Small Arms Survey Deconstructed by WeaponsMan
Going through some of the high-minded but empty-headed writings of
the Small Arms Survey, an NGO sponsored by a Swiss do-gooder institute
that’s an offshoot of the League of Nations that prevented European war
(wait… what?) one is shocked by some of the moronic drivel written
there. All the usual suspects of hack advocacy are there: “many experts
say” without naming one such expert; “it is generally accepted” followed
by some tendentious, extreme, and woolly-headed assertion; or “the
peer-reviewed literature generally” prior to repeating some assumption that underlies a raft of bad research.
It is hackery wrapped in bad faith, shackled by an anchor chain of dishonesty to an anchor of cold-rolled fable, and then dropped into the trackless depths of the Sea of Lies, taking you along for the ride if you’re so unwise as to latch on.
And that’s the supposedly factual bit. We particularly howled at the assertion that the widespread availability of military arms and the provision of arms and training by Russia, France and Egypt, led to the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Rwandans by machete and club. Because
the eeeevil assault weapons made ‘em do it — never mind that the bulk
of the foreign weapons provided to the state of Rwanda before the
unpleasantness were complex crew-served and support weapons, machinery
of wholesale warfare of no use to unlettered militiamen perpetrating
retail mass-murders of civilians. But these guys have an agenda and an
ideology, and they live in that deep place in the Sea of Lies where the
lights of truth, fact and logic cannot penetrate.

Kansas Counties Give up on Government Defenseless Victim Zones
One of the reforms that was passed in Kansas in 2013 was a ban on government defenseless victim zones, unless they were enforced. The law requires that if a government entity bans law abiding citizens from carrying guns on their premises, then they must enforce that ban for criminals who would ignore mere signs.
Rep. Forest Knox, who sponsored the bill, explained its purpose:
“It is about safety,” the Altoona Republican told the Emporia Gazette. “You’re not afraid of illegal guns that are already there but you’re afraid of law-abiding citizens who are carrying guns? And I think the public sees that point.”
If a government entity desired to ban guns, they would have to secure all the entrances to that building and put in place security measures that would effectively keep guns out of their premises for both law abiding citizens and criminals alike. Such measures would normally include metal detectors and security guards. The government entities could obtain a six month exemption to the law. The exemption will end on December 31st of this year. An alternate method to delay implementation of the law is for the government entity to pass a resolution approving of a security plan that would meet the requirements. That would allow for a four year exemption.
Several counties have already recognized the foolishness of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep people from bearing arms in a few small places, when they can bear arms nearly everywhere else. There is also the political consideration that ordinary people would object to government employees and legislators being treated as somehow more valuable than ordinary citizens, and therefore worthy of special and expensive protection.
Arizona has passed a similar measure twice, with large margins, though Arizona's Governor Brewer has vetoed it both times.
It is hard to see how opponents of the bill can fault it, as it simply requires them to enforce the gun bans that they want in place. The irrational thinking seems to stem from false assumptions about reality, based on the "progressive elite" model of modern murder, where murders occur because ordinary citizens, in a moment of passion, have a gun available. In fact, the vast majority of murders are committed by a tiny group of people with a long history of violence that is well documented.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble has recognized that the real choice that confronts us is whether to have an armed society, that can quickly react to localized threats, or a mix of heavily fortified areas interspersed between areas with virtually no protection. The Kansas law requires pubic officials to face up to this choice. The heavily fortified "green zone" model may work for a totalitarian state ruled by an elite, but it cannot work for a free society.
Bans on citizens carrying guns in government buildings add nothing to security, but they make life complicated for those who wish to exercise their second amendment rights. Like most defenseless victim zones, they are designed to intimidate and inconvenience gun owners, making the exercise of their constitutional rights difficult and legally dangerous.
The Kansas law is a good first step toward an increase in public safety by the reduction of defenseless victim zones.

GA:Businessman arrested for loitering, carrying legal gun on own property
Mr. Lee has filed a federal lawsuit. It seems a very clear case.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —
A local businessman is outraged after being thrown in jail for loitering and carrying a gun on his own property.(snip)
“They (the police) just pulled in and said, ‘What is going on? What is going on? Hands up, Anybody have any weapon?’ I said I have a gun. They just grabbed me, took my gun and threw me in the car,” Lee said.
Lee said he told the officer he had the permit on him. He was cited for loitering and his truck was towed from his private property.

A judge dismissed the case at his initial appearance and apologized. For more than a year, Lee has been trying to get his gun back, get an apology from police and get reimbursed for the cost of getting his car towed.
“They gave me the run around. I went to every precinct over here. Not here, try this one, Not here, try this one,” Lee said.

The 1,800 or so criminals who have killed, robbed or assaulted innocent people with guns in the District of Columbia so far this year were hauled into the police station to be fingerprinted, photographed and to undergo a criminal-background check.
Now, legal gun owners who have committed no crime are getting the exact same treatment. That is neither constitutional, nor fair.
The latest gun-control scheme that starts on Jan. 1 will force every legal firearm owner in the nation’s capital to go in person to police headquarters to renew their registration certificates.
The Metropolitan Police Department filed proposed rules last week to enact this absurd law, and citizens have until Dec. 15 to comment on the regulations.
To avoid becoming a felon, anyone with a gun registered before 2011 will have to go to police headquarters to be fingerprinted, photographed, provide proof of address, pay a fee and confirm they may still legally possess the firearm. The Firearms Registration Section will then create a new registration certificate — now in the form of an ID card — for each gun.
This operation could end up making the rollout of Obamacare look smooth and easy.
The police propose scheduling everyone in three-month windows based on your birthday. The eight windows start on Jan. 1 and go through 2015. They intend to set up an online system to make an appointment. The department is trying to set up a system to accept credit cards for the $13-per-gun fee, but that has not been finalized.
George Lyon, who was a plaintiff in the original Heller case, pointed out that it will cost him $104 to re-register his eight guns. “I don’t see that they need a re-registration system at all,” the Washington lawyer told me “But if they do, this whole thing ought really to be done online, automated and without adding more fees.”

IN:Cheap Gun Opportunity, Gary Indiana Turn In (buyback) Saturday, 23 November, 2013
Gary, Indiana, will be having a gun turn in even on Saturday, 23 November, 2013. While these events are commonly labeled with the propaganda term "buyback" the guns were never owned by the people attempting to buy them. Gary has had these events in May 2012, August, 2012, October, 2012, December 2012, and possibly others. These turn-in events usually bring in between 50 and 130 firearms, some of them quite valuable.
The event will be held at six churches in the area:
Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1831 Virginia St.
Pilgrim M.B. Church, 1301 W. 21st Ave.
Embassies of Christ, 4285 Cleveland St.
Grace Unity C.O.G.I.C., 3435 W. 21st Ave.
St. Andrew AME Zion Church, 749 Chase Street
Beyond 4 Walls Christian Center, 875 S. Lake St.
The event is scheduled to run from 8 am to 4 pm. People often turn up early at these events.
The incentive for the gun turn in has been a $50 WalMart gift card for handguns, rifles, and shotguns, and a $100 WalMart gift card for "assault weapons". A special incentive at the Gary turn-in will be a certificate for a free GED test for the first 50 people to turn in guns. With the guns to be turned in at multiple locations, the action may be slow at any one spot. Private sales are legal in Indiana, as they are in most states.
Linda at the Gary Police Department, (219) 881-1201, believed that the incentives would be as before, with the addition of the GED testing. She said that they have not seen private buyers at these events. People who wish to turn in guns may do so anonymously, and can simply walk into the places where the guns are to be turned in. As police in Gary may not have encountered private buyers before, attending with a friend and having a digital recorder, might be a good idea.
You might want to read about the other events to see how things were handled there.
Be prepared for a percentage of people who refuse to talk to anyone but police. All the private buyers that I saw in Phoenix were very polite and let these ideologically driven people turn in their guns for a fraction of what they would be worth on the open market.
Signs are helpful, as are good grooming, cash, and a friendly attitude. Dale Carnegie's advise for dealing with people works very well.
Across the country, communities, police departments and churches are sponsoring gun turn-ins to get "guns off the street". At many of these events, private buyers are showing up, offering cash for the more valuable guns. These private additions to the public turn-in are effective, no doubt, in getting more guns out of the hands of people who do not appreciate them, because they add to the resources that are available to those who want to get rid of guns for something of value, be it a gift card or a number of twenty dollar bills.
You can help make the turn-in in your area more effective by standing on the curb with your "Cash for Guns" sign, or at a folding table, willing to offer more than the gift card for firearms that are more valuable. It would be best if numerous private parties were available, as more good guns could then be transferred into responsible hands.
This action serves many useful purposes. It stretches the turn-in budget so that more guns can be taken off the street. It helps keep fearful widows from being defrauded of most of the market value of the gun they are turning in. It prevents valuable assets from being destroyed by bureaucratic inflexibility. It is a win-win-win situation.
It also dispels the pernicious message that guns are bad and should be destroyed.

Moms Demand Action caught lying… Again!

This turned out to be a complete and utter lie. The numerous phone calls to the store to inquire about the event all came up as, no, it did not happen.
We made a phone call to the store and obtained a recording to confirm this.

Last week, authorities say 75-year-old Charlie Carlson shot and killed 23-year-old Gypsy Watts when Watts attempted to burglarize Carlson's home with a gun.

Despite being dubbed “the murder capital of the world,” guns are off the table for discussion in the Honduran presidential debate, Washington, D.C. attorney Kevin Lees concludes in an analysis published today by New Republic.
“[T]he Central American country [has the] unfortunate distinction of having the world’s highest homicide rate -- over 91 per 100,000,” Lee reported. “[T]he Honduran gun ownership rate (between six and ten firearms per 100 people) pales to that in the United States, which leads the world in gun ownership by a wide margin of around 89 per 100.”
Think of what he just admitted: Honduras has fewer guns and more homicides. The U.S. has more guns and fewer homicides. The very idea screams “book title.”
Evidently not one to realize he’s making a strong case against “gun control,” Lees soldiers on.
“[J]ust as President Barack Obama’s fight for moderate gun control legislation seems futile in the United States, nearly everyone in Honduras also believes that efforts to legislate restrictions is equally improbable, no matter who wins Sunday’s presidential election,” he bemoans.
Aside from setting himself up as the final arbiter of all things “moderate” when it comes to citizen disarmament edicts, Lees nonetheless touches on truths but then can’t seem to connect them, beginning with his reference to the small arms profile for Honduras posted at GunPolicy.org.
That online compilation of global gun statistics and law summaries is a project of the Sydney School of Public Health, which itself “promotes the public health model of firearm injury prevention, as adopted by the United Nations Programme of Action on illicit small arms.” It’s hardly an endeavor sympathetic to private gun ownership, but nonetheless provides a useful resource for unwittingly showing the utter failure of globalist citizen disarmament edicts at living up to their promise of a safer world. And in the case of Honduras, nothing unexpected is learned.
Guns in Honduras are regulated by the Ministry of Defence and the Preventive Police. Licenses are required, and they need to be renewed every four years. Authorities keep a record of who has what. And there’s a cap on the number of guns that can be owned.
How has that worked out?
“The number of registered guns in Honduras is reported to be 151,003,” GunPolicy.org reports. “Unlawfully held guns cannot be counted, but in Honduras there are estimated to be 850,000.”

BATFE to Submit new Regs on Stolen and Missing Guns
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) is expected to release a draft rule dealing with stolen firearms. The rule is under review by the White House, which has 90 days before it is required to release it to the public for comment.
No one knows what the rule will do or what purpose it would serve, other than to make already burdened gun dealers subject to more bureaucratic snares and tripwires. Since this process started in 1992 in the Clinton era, the number of gun dealers has plunged from 248,000 in 1993 to a bit less than 51,000 in 2012, a decline of nearly 80%.
The smaller the dealer, the more burdensome the bureaucratic record keeping becomes, and this concentrates the dealers into smaller numbers of larger businesses, which make further regulation and harassment easier and easier. It was the stated purpose of the Clinton administration to reduce the numbers of smaller Federal Firearm licensees.
The crime rate, as measured by the homicide rate, climbed dramatically after the Gun Control Act of 1968 was implemented, then dropped as most states implemented concealed carry. There is no objective reason to believe that the licensing of retail gun dealers has any significant effect on crime.
If we were to act rationally, we would simply scrap the entire attempt to reduce crime by monitoring the retail sale of firearms through licensing. GCA 1968 has always been designed as part of the "slippery slope" to enact a universal gun registry, which is in effect, slow motion gun confiscation, as recently seen in California.
The whole citizen disarmament movement has never been about crime control, and its objectives have become an increasingly hidden agenda as its policies have been shown to be ineffective and unpopular.
As David Codrea notes, you cannot have a rational debate with those who continually lie about both the facts and their objectives.

INDIANAPOLIS/HOUSTON – An Indiana native wants to arm law-abiding
citizens in high crime areas throughout Indianapolis with free shotguns
in an effort to help people protect their homes and families.
Kyle Coplen was born and raised in Rochester, Indiana. He studied at Ball State University and then moved to Houston, Texas, to continue his eduction. Earlier this year, he created the Armed Citizen Project (ACP), as part of a thesis project that will provide research for his theory that firearms can deter crime.
“Guns are used to stop over four million crimes a year. Ninety percent of the time that a gun is used to stop a crime, it doesn’t even need to be fired,” he tells Fox 59. “The study that’s gonna come out of this, doing this all across the country and multiple cities, we can prove hopefully what our hypothesis is and that’s that criminals have no intention of dying in your hallway.”
He’s already arming dozens of people in Texas and has plans to bring his movement to Indianapolis. But before he does, Fox 59′s Aishah Hasnie flew to Houston to get an exclusive, up-close look at his program.

Earlier this year, he created the Armed Citizen Project (ACP), as part of a thesis project that will provide research for his theory that firearms can deter crime.
“Guns are used to stop over four million crimes a year. Ninety percent of the time that a gun is used to stop a crime, it doesn’t even need to be fired,” he tells Fox 59. “The study that’s gonna come out of this, doing this all across the country and multiple cities, we can prove hopefully what our hypothesis is and that’s that criminals have no intention of dying in your hallway.”
He’s already arming dozens of people in Texas and has plans to bring his movement to Indianapolis. But before he does, Fox 59′s Aishah Hasnie flew to Houston to get an exclusive, up-close look at his program.

OH:Reforms to Improve Gun Laws up for Debate
As is usually the case in these debates, the opposition puts forward numerous hypotheticals, none of which is backed up by the facts. A classic case of "progressives" claiming that most people are too stupid to have rights.
The latest sweeping changes to Ohio gun laws, including a “stand your ground” provision, have generated fierce debate, and the gun bill containing them is set for action in the Ohio House this week.
House Bill 203 contains a number of components, including efforts to ensure that cities can’t avoid paying attorneys fees when their gun laws are challenged, and ensuring that people don’t get concealed-carry licenses in Ohio who don’t even qualify for purchasing a gun.
“We are attempting to get our constitutional rights back,” said Gary Witt, legislative coordinator for Ohioans for Concealed Carry.

Is it reasonable to assume that someone who breaks into a house and starts beating on the homeowner, and who refuses to say what he wants, is simple "looking for help"? The toxicology results will be very interesting.
