According to police the woman encountered the suspect, retrieved a
handgun and called police. Police said that during a struggle between
the woman and the intruder, the gun was fired “a number of times.” The
homeowner was shot once, according to police, and was taken to a
hospital in serious condition. She is expected to survive, police said.
