The ordeal began around 3 a.m. Tuesday when Elma police were sent to the
1700 block of West Main Street for a report of a burglary in progress
and that their front door had been kicked in. As police and deputies
raced to that scene, officers were called to a second home in the 100
block of North 9th Street for a report of a second burglary. That
homeowner said the burglar had kicked his door in, and after arming
himself, found the suspect pointing an AK-47 at him, police said.
