The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says Reedley Police chased after
Luna, going through a neighborhood where he went through the backyards
of homes and even climbed on rooftops.
At one point, Luna broke into a house, waking the sleeping homeowner.
The homeowner grabbed a firearm to investigate but Luna had already left the house.
Officers searching for Luna were confronted by the armed homeowner and one of the officers fired at the man, hitting him in the leg.
“If someone
breaks into your house, wakes up your family, you have a right to
defend your property I do want to emphasize the fact that, what he is,
is he’s a victim of Mr. Luna’s actions," said Lt. Purcell.
Other officers continued to chase Luna and eventually found him and took him into custody.

Are statistics kept of police shooting of bystanders? Are statistics kept of the same by citizens defending themselves? I think those would be interesting numbers to have along side defensive use of a firearm.
