TN: Man acted in self-defense when shooting 2 burglars: "Knox County prosecutors have determined a 21-year-old man who killed two burglars he caught in his residence acted in self-defense and will not face criminal charges. Douglas Jordan III told detectives he shot the two men dressed in black after entering his Love Lane trailer about 11:18 p.m. June 27. When Knox County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, they found Adam Peiffer, 25, and Jimmy Cannon, 39, both of Knoxville, dead in the trailer, Nichols said. Peiffer had a criminal history in Knox and Blount counties. Cannon had no criminal history in Knox County, but had an armed robbery conviction and drug-related charges in Georgia. Nichols said one man was shot in the arm and chest while the second was shot in the chest. One man wore a mask and one wore a bandana. The investigation, Nichols said, showed the door to the trailer where Jordan had lived for a month had been pried open."

La.: Home invader killed so accomplices charged with murder: "Alexandria Police officers have charged two suspects with second-degree murder and home invasion after a botched armed robbery resulted in the death of a third accomplice at the hands of the home's resident early Monday on Willow Glen Street. Resident Roy Harris Jr. shot and killed Darwin Johnson, 24 [above], of the 2700 block of Ninth Street, Alexandria, during the break-in about 4:30 a.m. Monday, police said. Marlon Chaney, 19, of 3919 Norman St., Alexandria, and Warren O'Conner, 20, of 1920 Dublin Road, Alexandria, each face the second-degree murder charge because they were attempting an armed robbery when Johnson was killed, say police. Police say Johnson, Chaney and O'Conner broke into the home while members of the Harris family were asleep."

La.: Resident was prepared for robber: "As of Tuesday evening, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office had not released the name of a suspect shot during another alleged home invasion that occurred around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Old Boyce Road near Alexandria. Resident Donnie Baggett had been sleeping on the floor of his living room with his pistol after a burglar broke into his house two days in a row last week, he said. On Monday morning, Baggett awoke to see a masked man standing over him, so Baggett drew his gun and shot the burglar, authorities reported. The burglar ran off and wound up in the intensive care unit at a local hospital, the Sheriff's Office said."

It’s official: Gun ownership is trendy: "The cover article in Harper’s magazine’s August issue is ‘Happiness is a worn gun: My concealed weapon and me’ by Dan Baum. Harper’s does have a Web site, but you must subscribe to read the articles. Before you do so, or rush out to buy the paper copy on the newsstand, this review will give you a taste of what to expect: It’s official: gun ownership is trendy. When a prime exemplar of the liberal press publishes a ‘Come to Jesus (Armed)’ feature, you know it’s only a matter of time before every state in the these here United becomes a ’shall issue’ state. Yes, even California, Rhode Island and New York.”
