NH Senate overrides gov. on guns: "The one vote in question on this veto day was where Senators stood on the so-called deadly force bill. That’s the legislation that would allow citizens outside of their home to use deadly force to protect themselves or others when threatened. Current law says a person must retreat if they believe they can retreat safely when not on their property. In an unusual move for the Governor, Lynch took his opposition to the streets of Nashua, Hampton and Manchester. But the road tour, and the backing from every major local and state law enforcement agency weren’t enough to sustain Lynch’s veto. The effort fell two votes short."


Federal judge rejects challenge to NY gun law: "A federal judge has upheld a New York law that requires an applicant to show "a special need for self-protection" before winning a license to carry a handgun. District Judge Cathy Seibel ruled in White Plains that the state "has an important government interest in promoting public safety and preventing crime" and that the Supreme Court left room for that interest in recent rulings expanding gun rights. But a higher court is likely to have the final say. The plaintiffs' lawyer, Alan Gura, said he has already taken the case to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and an eventual Supreme Court decision is possible. "The question here is whether the government gets to regulate a constitutional right or completely abolish it," Gura said."
