The last question, serves two purposes in this poll. First, in the current high emotions state of the nation, it creates a peception of lower firearm owner numbers, as many feel villified and blamed, and will not volunteer that they are firearm owners.
Second, it serves to delegitimize those who disagree with imposing draconian gun control, by showing that a large number of them own guns, i.e. belong to the group that is being demonized, and whose opinion is therefore illegitimate.
Nasty stuff.
