California Firearms Deaths

Interesting data set from California.  The vast majority of homicides are intra racial, so the homicide numbers give a pretty good indication of the numbers of homicide offenders by the groupings given.  The suicide numbers are likely fairly good.  It would be interesting to compare the FBI numbers to these.

About 80,000 California residents died because of firearm injuries between 1991 and 2012, roughly the same number killed in motor vehicle accidents, according to the latest state health data.

• The number of firearm-related deaths is much lower today than it was 20 years ago, even though the state's population has grown significantly and many more guns are sold each year.
• Californians between 15 and 24 are the most likely age group to die because of a firearm injury. Children under 15 account for less than 2 percent of firearm deaths.
• Firearm death rates are generally highest in rural, inland California, particularly in the northern part of the state.
• Minorities are more likely to be murdered with a firearm than whites. Whites are more likely to kill themselves with a firearm than minorities.
