MN:CCW Holder Cleared in Shooting

Earl Malone, Suspected Armed Robber

One adult attempts to rob another, using the threat of deadly force.  The victim is an armed adult with a concealed carry permit.  He defends himself, and the attempted robber dies.   Cause for muted thanks, correct?  The good guy won, and there is one less hardened criminal on the street to make the city a slightly less dangerous place.

The CBSMinnesota headline:

Man Released After Claiming Self Defense In Fatal Mpls. Shooting
This from cbslocal.com:
Authorities believe he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot 18-year-old Earl Malone Saturday night at the intersection of Knox Avenue North and 26th Street.

Police took the 21-year-old man into custody at the scene. Sources tell WCCO the man has a conceal-and-carry permit, and told police he shot Malone because he had tried to rob him.
I would propose a different headline, which would be just as valid:

Armed Citizen Released after Shooting Robbery Suspect.

Many have suggested that armed citizens be rewarded for such actions.   They risked their life and helped protect the rest of society.   How many crimes are prevented by stopping a criminal career?

When I saw the headline, I thought it was saying Eric Holder was cleared in shooting.

I figured it was more Fast & Furious coverup.

Wow.....no facts or any evidence, just one person's (alive no doubt) version of events.
Two lives and families will forever be changed, but who gives a hoot. The gun carries who have taken the 2nd amendment totally out of context will rally their battle cry and those who vehemently oppose will rally. These family will continue to be traumatized by both who are only interested in their cause. SMH......God forgive us .....America has gone to HE'LL in the proverbial hand basket.

The police investigated. In a shooting, there is always plenty of evidence.

All of what you suggest would also have happened if the robber had successfully committed his crime, instead of being stopped by the armed citizen.

Criminals that are committing armed robbery at 18 will likely victimize hundreds, if no thousands of people by the time they are 30.

No one can be sure of how many victims were saved by cutting a criminal career short.
