This shooting was initially characterized as a shooting over trespass. Now it comes out that it was a defensive shooting. The following includes a statement by the State Attorney, Jim Devine.
It is my belief on the facts presented to me that the homeowner had a
justifiable right to protect himself, his wife and his property," Devine
said today in an email. "Mr. Williams had ample opportunity to leave
the homeowner's premises. When Williams did not leave and then
subsequently moved in an aggressive manner toward the homeowner, the
justifiable right of self-defense came into play.
