Patrick Ropert, a spokesman for SNCF, said:
Above all we evidently must salute the level-headedness and the
determination of the two American passengers who intervened aboard the
Thalys today. I want to pay tribute to the support of the passengers we witnessed and the Thalys staff tonight in extremely testing conditions.
The minister of the interior has arrived in Arras to oversee the inquiry and the operation there.

There were other passengers , in addition to the marines, who played a part in subduing the gunman.
