Her father, Gordon Schumer, is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. Her mother Sandy Schumer's ancestry includes English and German, as well as some Scottish and Welsh. Amy went to Hebrew School and had a Bat Mitzvah ceremony.
Her father is related to U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer.
