A dog "just barking" at turkeys, can easily panic them into severely injuring themselves. The turkeys owner had already lost several of them.
Deputies say the shooting is justified. Under the law,
any dog not under control of its owner that "kills, wounds, or injures
any livestock not belonging to the master of such dog, is a public
nuisance and may be killed immediately by any person."
