Brockton police said the shooter, identified by police as 18-year-old Khamani K. Anderson, turned himself in at the police department shortly after 9 a.m. Monday and was placed in custody.
Anderson is expected to appear in Brockton District Court later Monday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a loaded firearm during a felony and improper storage of a firearm.
Police said they were able to talk to the man who was shot on Sunday at the hospital. Their preliminary investigation revealed the shooting victim pulled a knife on an Ocean State Job Lot worker and the employee then pulled out a gun and shot the man.
The shooting victim, identified as 26-year-old Brandon C. Theodat, is also facing charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. He also had an previous warrant for his arrest. He remains hospitalized but is expected to survive.
