Police said an argument broke out between the two drivers and the 24-year-old man noticed the other driver had what appeared to be a rifle in his hands.
According to JPD, the younger driver pointed the rifle at the caller, who told police he pulled out a pistol and shot the teen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said a pellet/BB-style CO2 rifle was found in the Volkswagon.
“It looked very realistic, very much like a firearm,” Juneau Police Chief Derek Bos said Monday. “Responding officers also held the initial belief that it was an actual firearm. It was determined much later in the investigation that it was not.”
