Preliminary information: On Friday, July 3, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Atlanta police responded to 859 Oak St. NW regarding a person shot call. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from two gunshot wounds. Officers quickly detained one male at the scene, while the other male, 38-year-old Brandon Harper, was transported to the hospital alert, conscious, and breathing.
During their preliminary investigation, officers determined there had been a verbal dispute between Harper and the detained male. Investigators determined Harper was the primary aggressor and had fired a firearm multiple times at the detained male. The detained male, who was uninjured, returned fire in self-defense, striking Harper twice.
Additionally, investigators determined Harper is a convicted felon
and was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants. Harper was charged
accordingly in connection with this incident and will be transported to
the Fulton County Jail upon his discharge from the hospital. The other
male will not face any charges.
