Police were called just before midnight Monday to a shooting on Melita Street, near downtown Fort Wayne.

spokesman Officer Michael Joyner said a preliminary investigation
revealed a burglar attempted to enter the home and was shot by the
homeowner in self-defense. Joyner said information was not immediately
available if the intruder made it into the house.
