Police say the white male brandished a toy gun that appeared to be a
real firearm, demanding narcotics. The 42-year-old pharmacist shot the
suspect once in the chest. He was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical
Center and is listed in stable condition.

A realistic gun?
My 55 year old Mattel chrome Fanner 50 with brass and steel bullets was realistic looking.
You can still find them online, but you better open your wallet, and these had NO orange tips back then.
These were realistic looking toys.
After Nam, toy AR-15s were produced.
