Wa: Intervention in Domestic Fight Becomes Self Defense
The Thurston County sheriff's office says the fight between the 35-year-old and 37-year-old brothers spilled outside and two 22-year-old soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord who lived in a nearby house intervened.
Lt. Cliff Ziesemer says one of the 22-year-olds was armed. A shot was fired as the older brother tried to disarm him. The 37-year-old died at the scene.

The acronym "MYOB" comes to mind. And the numbers "9-1-1."
I can see getting involved if it had been some big drunken lout wailing on his tiny girlfriend.
But introducing a gun into a fistfight between a couple of drunken brothers (no indication that either was armed), that might otherwise have ended with a couple of bloody or broken noses?
Betcha the younger brother didn't think it was necessary for his older brother to have been shot.
I'm a supporter of the right to bear arms and concealed carry. But owning a gun doesn't give you the legal or moral authority to intervene in other people's fistfights. Gun owners should be wary of the temptation to become an "armed hero" in situations that don't require one.
