Donald Trump made a number of promises when he was campaigning to be the President of the United States. Many of them can be achieved fairly quickly. Some will be fought, tooth and nail by "Progressive" dominated states. Here are three that can be done quickly and should be insisted upon.
First: Appoint Antonin Scalia literalists to the Supreme Court. This was the cornerstone of President Trump's support for the Second Amendment. Trump should push for this fast and hard. He should be held to this promise on any future court appointees. From donaldtrump.com:
Appoint justices to the United States Supreme Court who will uphold our laws and our Constitution. The replacement for Justice Scalia will be a person of similar views and principles who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.Trump on the Second Amendment:
The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period. The Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that belongs to all law abiding Americans. The Constitution doesn’t create that right it ensures that the government can’t take it away. Our Founding Fathers knew, and our Supreme Court has upheld, that the Second Amendment’s purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. This is about self defense, plain and simple.Appointing one or more justices who will be true to the Constitution as written, is the most likely policy to be fiercely opposed by gun haters. By acting quickly, President Trump can get his choice through with the minimum of contention and delay.
Second: National reciprocity for the "bear arms" part of the Second Amendment. This has been a major plank in Donald Trump's platform. Here it is:
NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY.
The right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving which is a privilege, not a right then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege. The proper vehicle for implementing this promise has already been introduced in Congress. It is HR 923.
Amends the federal criminal code to authorize a person who is not prohibited from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm under federal law, who is entitled and not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm in his or her state of residence or who is carrying a valid state license or permit to carry a concealed weapon, and who is carrying a government-issued photographic identification document, to carry a concealed handgun (which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce, other than a machine gun or destructive device) in any state in accordance with the restrictions of that state. There have been the votes in the Senate and House to pass national reciprocity for 10 years. President Bush did not make it a priority. The Congress knew President Obama would veto it. Pass HR 923 quickly, while Democrat Senators still fear the strength of the gun lobby.
Provides that in a state that allows the issuing authority for licenses or permits to carry concealed firearms to impose restrictions on the carrying of firearms by individual license or permit holders, an individual carrying a concealed handgun under this Act shall be permitted to carry it according to the same terms authorized by an unrestricted license or permit issued by such state.
The third thing Donald Trump can do quickly is end the gun free zones on military bases . He can tell the Joint Chiefs of Staff to prepare an order to allow military members to carry on post and in recruit centers, to be able to protect themselves.
MILITARY BASES AND RECRUITING CENTERS.Bonus. There is a fourth thing where President Trump does not have to do anything, but he should get some credit. He will keep the Protection of the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA)
Banning our military from carrying firearms on bases and at recruiting centers is ridiculous. We train our military how to safely and responsibly use firearms, but our current policies leave them defenseless. To make America great again, we need a strong military. To have a strong military, we need to allow them to defend themselves.
Elimination of the PLCAA was a major plank of the Hillary Clinton platform. The PLCAA stopped the lawfare designed to destroy gun manufacturers in the United States. This is the easiest policy to enact. Nothing is required. President Trump should get credit for doing nothing in this case. It is an enormous improvement over a Clinton presidency.
President Trump can do much more, some things are easy, some a bit more complicated. I will leave those for a future article.

He still needs to prove the words license or permit exist in the second amendment. under original intent the only people that can not open or conceal carry are those in jail and they can not even own in jail. If you can legally be on the street you need protection.
all guaranteed rights deserve equal protection, you do not need a permit to express your opinion so why do you need a permit to carry. you lose your rights in jail, you get them all back when you get out that is original intent.
If you are not incarcerated the government has no control over you. and it sure as hell does not provide individual protection.

Repeal ALL gun control laws that restrict the law abiding gun owners.
"who is entitled and not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm in his or her state of residence"
Here is the huge problem with this part of the referenced bill, it does nothing for HI,MD & NJ who have a functional statewide ban on issue of CCW. In CA, NY and MA some counties issue but others do not. So under this bill, a guy from PA can waltz into NYC and is legal to carry. Some guy who doesn't have $$$'s to buy his way into the club and lives in Manhattan is locked out.
Every blog, reporter and 2A pundit should be screaming from the rooftops about this. Why not word it, "any person who possesses any CCW from any state regardless of legal residence shall receive reciprocity from all other states, territories and federal enclaves." Then I would be a freeman in my home state of NJ.
How does a state like New Jersey fall into the reprocicity issue?
I'd like to see him write an executive order undoing any previous anti-gun executive orders. He could also do that quickly and easily.
Sadly this act does little for us who are stuck in states like NY & NJ. I guess it would make it legal for a Fla. resident to carry while visiting NJ but NJ residents would still be unarmed.
The proper vehicle is the Second Amendment itself.
If it is to be believed that we need a permission slip for enumerated rights, then all is lost because we will soon enough need a permit to carry a book.
Let's drop the nonsense and just tell the truth, shall we?
I understand the desire to sugar coat things, but that does not serve rights in the long run, and it certainly does not serve posterity. Helping controllers cement the power of permission is the most wicked damage we can do to what remains of our Constitution. We should not be baited into doing anything of the kind.
We must instead force governments, all of them, to stand down the decades long assault upon our rights, upon our Constitution, that took place all on a false premise that the Second Amendment "didn't apply" and that it was somehow "different" from other rights.
Here is what I WILL accept from the President of these united States -
The Truth.
Nothing more and nothing less.
to the poster from new jersey I suggest you read the constitution and smarten up. nothing in the constitution allows any level of government to force the use of registration licensing or permitting of a right. In fact article four section two specifically forbids one state from denying rights to a person from another state. in other words where ever a citizen travels in this nation your rights go with you. Read the tenth amendment. then count the 26 words in the second amendment a prove any other words exist like permit or license. the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed that is federal constitutional mandate. Individual states have no authority to ignore what is in the federal constitution. since the federal government is forbidden to pass any infringing laws the states are also forbidden. It is the height of ignorance to continue to support licensing or permit laws.
ALl throughout the primary season I hammered Now President- Elect Trump about this, about the word privilege, about permission slips. I cautioned all people reading to his ACTUAL stated and written positions (yes plural). I warned. I will continue to do so - as I have all along.
I have a lot of I Told You SOs stacked up right about now, and never before have I wished so many of them to not come to pass. I have never wished to be so wrong about my own claims in all my life. We are about to stuck with the results of this election for the next half a century. I hope it works out positively for us.
And for those naysayers - years ago when the NRA was literally BEGGING for permission slips, I marched among the folks begging for them with a sign to the very Contrary, in fact, saying clearly - "I'm not here begging for permission slips". Yeah, I was the outcast. I was the bad guy. I was being divisive and "too much of an activist". Uh huh. Riiiight. I was the one telling the truth then, and I am telling it now too.
I look forward to the NRA finally doing so too. I am encouraged seeing more people do so, pointing out that that is the way to get the NRA to pony up to that truth so it can start "standing and fighting" for that truth.
