Followup KY: Johnathan Turley Exonerated in Shooting of Police Officer
"(It) appears this incident was an unfortunate set of circumstances for all parties involved," Whittaker wrote. "... It is my opinion that both parties were justified in their actions and there is no evidence Mr. Turley had any intentions of shooting a police officer, only protecting himself after being shot at first."
Whittaker wrote that Turley told detectives he lives in a camper in the backyard of his son's home. He said he'd gone inside his son's home and saw a flashlight beam outside, but didn't see the source when he went outside. Turley said he went back to his camper when he saw the light again.
