MI: Domestic Defense, Man Shot with Pistol During Struggle for Rifle

The Kalkaska man returned around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 14. He was met by the rifle-wielding homeowner, who demanded he leave the residence.

Police said the Kalkaska man forced his way into the residence and a struggle ensued over the rifle. The intruder gained control of the rifle “for a short time” and then a second struggle for the rifle began.

At one point, the homeowner produced a small caliber pistol and shot the Kalkaska man once in the chest. He was transported to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
