Deputies said the investigation revealed a man from Mauldin drove to the home in an attempt to persuade a woman in the household to return with him to his home. Officials said the two had previously been in a non-marital relationship and after separating, the woman returned to her family on Coffee Road.
Officials reported the man drew a weapon, but other people at the residence removed the weapon from him. Deputies said the man then drew a second weapon and began firing, striking the woman and the two men at the home.
The sheriff’s office said another man at the home fired shots at Gibbs, but no one was injured by this.
Deputies said the woman and one of the men underwent surgery and are now “stable but serious condition.” The second man was treated and released.
According to officials, Gibbs drove away from the residence and stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of an elementary school on Coffee Road. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
