Guns are equalizers that make elderly people a match for young attackers.
The man heard a noise coming from a back bedroom and armed himself
with a handgun as he relayed information to a police dispatcher, Lt.
Mark Coit said in a statement.
As the prowler came out of the bedroom, a physical struggle allegedly
ensued between him and the man. The struggle ended when the man fired
two rounds from his handgun, striking the suspect once in the leg and
prompting him to flee to a bathroom in the home, Coit said.
