The criminal who was shot was 26 years old and had spent 7 of those years in prison.
A 26-year-old man was shot dead
with his own gun after he sexually assaulted a woman at school
construction site in the Bywater, New Orleans police said Friday. The
shooter, a man who was not identified, disarmed the woman's attacker and
opened fire around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The assailant, identified in police reports as Samuel Raines, began
assaulting the woman, and the other man was able to get ahold of the
weapon, NOPD said.
