NM: Bear Charges Man, Man Shoots Bear

Department of Game and Fish officers say the man, who is 25 years old, encountered the bear as he came over the top of a hill. He told officers the bear charged him and he shot it with a .30-30 caliber rifle from ten yards away.

Game and Fish officers says the bear – an adult female – was recovered early Friday, and a spokesperson said the man appeared to have "no choice" but to shoot the bear.
