(TX)Islander shoots trespasser

GALVESTON — A man caught trespassing on private property in Galveston on Friday night was shot by a resident but did not suffer life-threatening wounds, Galveston police Lt. Michael Gray said.

The resident of the 2100 block of Avenue P home told police he heard a commotion in the backyard about 9:30 p.m. and found Sergio Rojas, 24, in the backyard. The two did not know each other. The resident shot Rojas once in the arm. A second bullet possibly grazed Rojas in the forehead, Gray said.

Police found Rojas, who was conscious and coherent, inside a garage apartment on the property and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment.
