FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Four police agencies in Maine are hoping to lower the amount of unused guns in households in the state by offering a take back this weekend.
Sgt. Mike Edes with the Maine State Police says oftentimes people inherit old guns or ammunition and just don't know what to do with it. He says this is a safe alternative to private sales, because the agencies can sell the guns to a licensed dealer; the proceeds made from those sales will then go to the Special Olympics of Maine.
Police will also be offering classes on the safe handling of firearms, and how to properly store a gun at home.
Interesting change of pace from the usual turn in. More rational. This may be start of a trend. Dean Weingarten

What?
I'd rather have an unused gone in my home than one thats been used to kill someone.
