Attorney General Kamala Harris
moved Thursday to preserve California's restrictions on
concealed-weapons permits, seeking a rehearing of a federal appeals
court ruling that would allow law-abiding citizens throughout the state
to carry handguns in public.

"Local law enforcement must be able to use their discretion to determine
who can carry a concealed weapon," Harris said in a statement. "I will
do everything possible to restore law enforcement's authority to protect
public safety."
