Two and a half years ago, I wrote about the illegal "No Weapons" signs at Alabama rest stops. A year and a half later, I wrote about Governor Bentley ordering the signs taken down. Since then the Alabama AG has been busy. He has required gun free zone signs taken down all over the state. Last week, he ordered that the signs come down in Birmingham. From bizjournals.com:
After receiving a petition in May alleging the City of Birmingham did not have the authority to ban firearms at Railroad Park and Boutwell Auditorium, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange found the city in violation of Alabama law.The AG is not acting unilaterally. He is acting on citizen complaints of law breaking by local government officials. From trussvilletribune.com:
TRUSSVILLE –Following contact from Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, signs banning guns have been removed from public buildings in Clay, Center Point, and Irondale, as well as several other Alabama municipalities, according to a statement from the AG’s office. Some government officials say they have waited for the AG to act. Being pro-active did not seem to occur to them. From trussviletribune.com:
“We’ve just been waiting on (Strange) to put it out,” Dixon said. “I’ve been expecting it, but I haven’t seen it. If that’s the ruling, they’ll come down.”At the AG web page, you can see that there have been many rulings in the last year. From AG Luther Strange' office, there have been 29 rulings about gun free zone signs. The rulings started on 29 July, 2015. The signs are coming down all over the state. Here are some examples of the AG rulings.
“It’s not anything that we’ve enforced anyway,” he said.

alleged that the City of Tuscaloosa failed to comply with Alabama law
because it enforced Tuscaloosa Municipal Code Chapter 7, Article X on
Guns and Ammo, LLC in violation of Alabama Code § 13A-11-61.3(a). After
the Attorney General communicated with the City of Tuscaloosa, it was
determined that the City of Tuscaloosa is permitted under Ala. Code §
13A-11-61.3(g)(4) to enforce a law of general application. The Attorney
General has determined that no further action is required. | 06/28/2016 | |
2016-027 | A petitioner alleged that the City of Birmingham failed to comply with Alabama law because it prohibited firearms at Boutwell Auditorium and Railroad Park. Elections have consequences. The promise of the election was put into force by the prodding of numerous Second Amendment supporters, all over the State of Alabama.
